Defeating the taboo of death |
|
Recorder Community Newspapers By PHIL GARBER, Managing Editor Published: Aug 20th, 7:10 AM
CHESTER – George Salamy will never forget his wife, Barbara, but after her death, he has learned to move on with his own life, in large part because of the free support he got from an area grief support group.
Anne Elizabeth Siminoff feared she would drown in grief she suffered after her husband, Bruce, died. Like Salamy, Siminoff also discovered the strength to carry on, also because of help she got from the same group.
Salamy of Chester and Siminoff of Mendham came to grips with their grief after seeking help from the non-profit organization known as “Interregnum.” Siminoff is on the group’s board of trustees.

Ceramic hearts encourage cancer patient to never give up hope |
|
Verona Cedar Grove Times by Joe Olivieri, December 8, 2009
Joni Jasterzbski had never heard of Hearts for Hope when she received the gift.
She’d just spent almost nine months in treatment for stage three breast cancer. On her last day of radiation at St. Barnabas Medical Center, she was given a small ceramic craft with a flower painted on it. The gift came with a note – "Never give up. I’m always with you. Always have a smile on your face!!" – signed Jacqueline, in careful print. Completing treatment was already an emotional experience. To give a child’s artwork to an elementary school art teacher like "Mrs. J," as her Verona students affectionately call her, put her over the top. "I started to cry," the Wayne resident said. "It was so moving and so positive."
